How do they compare?
We have Mad respect for MudWTR. We love the brand and love how they’ve grown the coffee alternative category. So thanks, Mud. That said, Mad Dandy is a better product and a better value than MudWTR for a number of reasons. Here’s why:
DANDELION ROOT
Mad Dandy is made with Dandelion root.
MudWTR has no dandelion root.
This is the huge ingredient difference. Mad Dandy has 11,600 mg of dandelion root per serving which is loaded with antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, vitamins and minerals so it has tons of health benefits.

COLLAGEN
Mad Dandy has collagen protein.
MudWTR has no collagen protein.
Mad Dandy is made with 5,000 mg of collagen protein. Collagen is a protein responsible for healthy joints and skin elasticity. It’s also cited as helping to increase bone density and lessen wrinkles.
MudWTR has no collagen protein which makes us better.
MUSHROOMS
Mad Dandy has 1666mg of mushrooms.
MudWTR has 2240mg.
Mad Dandy is made with five kinds of mushrooms; Chaga, Reishi, Cordyceps, Lion’s Mane and Ashwaganda (though technically Ashwaganda is an adaptogenic herb.)
MudWTR is made with the same four mushrooms as Mad Dandy: Chaga, Reishi, Cordyceps and Lion’s Mane, though they do have slightly more. And you can buy an additional mushroom boost for another $25.
We both use whole mushroom powders grown in indoor farms. MudWTR knows their mushrooms. Props.
MudWTR has more mushrooms, but that’s about all they have. (Sorry for getting a little bit catty there.)
TURMERIC
Mad Dandy is made with Turmeric.
MudWTR is not made with Turmeric but does offer a Turmeric product sold separately.
They offer other products sold separately too like Cacao and Matcha. We prefer to keep it simple and affordable and include all the good stuff in our base Mad Dandy and Decaf Mad Dandy.

Decaf Mad Dandy is the caffeine free version of the original.
MudWTR Macha is their Macha version of their original Rise.
TASTE
MudWTR tastes like dirty water*.
Mad Dandy tastes amazing; like a creamy, nutty, cocoa latte.
People keep telling us they have to add all kinds of stuff to doctor the taste of MudWTR; like maple syrup, honey, sugar, sweetener etc. MudWTR actually encourages it in their recipes on their website. *And the New York Times said “MudWtr is an apt name for a drink that tastes like dirty water…”
Mad Dandy tastes like a creamy, nutty, cocoa latte. And it tastes amazing with just hot water. (Some people add their favorite milk but you don’t have to.)

CALORIES
Mad Dandy is 45 calories
MudWTR is 40 calories
A two-tablespoon serving of Mad Dandy is 45 calories while a two-tablespoon serving of MudWTR is 40 calories. But when you add their creamer (45 calories) and their suggested maple syrup or honey or another sweetener, MudWTR is at least 85 calories, and probably well over 100 calories.
45 calories make Mad Dandy better.
CAFFEINE
Mad Dandy has 1/4 the caffeine of a cup of coffee.
MudWTR has 1/7 the caffeine of a cup of coffee.
But Mad Dandy Decaf has ZERO caffeine so if you want to enjoy a cup before bed or are really sensitive to caffeine, Decaf Mad Dandy has you covered. MudWTR has 1/7 the caffeine of a cup of coffee which is pretty good.
A zero caffeine option makes Mad Dandy better.
COST
Mad Dandy costs $35 for a 30-day supply.
MudWTR costs $60 for the same 30-day supply.
MudWTR offers a subscription to make it cheaper but subscriptions are a pain for people. MudWTR also sells their creamer and sweetener separately for $20 each. So if you want to try to make MudWTR taste good, your $60 bag + $20 creamer + $20 sweetener is $100.
$35 vs $100 makes us better.
FINALLY
Mad Dandy is made with peanuts so if you’re allergic to peanuts, Mad Dandy is not for you. We also have a touch of dairy in our Chai, which is a variety that tastes extra amazing but also is not organic. So while no coffee alternative is perfect for everyone, we believe Mad Dandy is far superior to MudWTR and all the competitors we know of. Compare them side by side on our website.
