How drinking dandelion root improves your health
Why would anyone drink the root of an invasive weed that invades your lawn in the summertime? Well, you know we’re talking about dandelions, but you may not know just how healthy these weeds are.
Dandelion root is a natural herb that has been used as medicine for over 2500 years. It contains loads of antioxidants and has abundant anti-inflammatory properties and can reduce inflammation in the body. So the Mad Dandy you drink every morning, doesn't just taste amazing and help you reduce your coffee habit, it delivers all kinds of health benefits as well.
Now, we’re not doctors so please do your own research, but the Cleveland Clinic wrote this article about the health benefits of dandelion if you’d rather take their word for it. I would, if I were you, but we’ll press on either way.
Dandelion root contains a ton of anti-inflammatories which are an important part of fighting disease. Inflammation in the body can lead to all kinds of health problems, including heart disease, diabetes and even cancer. Dandelion root is an anti-inflammatory that reduces the body's overall inflammatory response. And that’s a good thing.
Inflammation in your body can cause elevated cholesterol levels too. Dandelion root helps the liver produce more bile, which in turn absorbs fats and reduces their levels in the bloodstream. Wait, you’re still reading this? You didn’t jump over the Cleveland Clinic Article? Then onward.
Besides being an anti-inflammatory, the dandelion root in Mad Dandy is also an incredible antioxidant. Antioxidants are molecules that can get rid of toxic free radicals. (Not the New Radicals, they’re a one-hit-wonder band) Free radicals, which are often released during times of physical or emotional stress, are toxins that damage the cells in your body and lead to disease processes. The antioxidants found in dandelion root have been shown to fight these toxins.
Free radicals cause other problems in the body as well, like wrinkles, age spots, and more. Antioxidants soak up these free radicals before they can damage the cells in your body.
Dandelion root has also been shown to help the body detoxify from harmful chemicals like those found in cigarettes. So if you are trying to quit smoking, dandelion root may be a helpful supplement for you. And seriously, if you’re still smoking, what the hell? Quit smoking!
The root of the dandelion is rich in potassium and the carbohydrate inulin, which is a type of soluble fiber found in plants that supports the growth and maintenance of a healthy bacterial flora in your intestinal tract and fiber which helps keep blood sugar levels low and can help you lose weight.
Dandelion root also provides tons of vitamins and minerals including iron, calcium, magnesium, vitamin K, vitamin E, and vitamin C which boosts immune function by supporting tissue growth in the body.
Now here's the thing about Mad Dandy; dandelion root is just one of the ingredients. It's also got four kinds of mushrooms, collagen protein, turmeric, chai and peanut butter protein. More about those in our next post. Meantime, try a hot cup of the original pre-coffee and prepare to fall in love with your new morning ritual.
